Coconut Game Challenge - tricky homework!

Date: 19th Nov 2018 @ 11:16am

This week's homework included a tricky little monster called the Coconut Game Challenge. Here it is again...

"The game costs 11p for one turn. Sam has 99p. How many turns can she have?"

In class we had been using a 100 square to add and subtract 10 from two digit numbers and then 11 and 12 from two digit numbers. To jump 12, we first jumped 10 and then 2. The homework followed on from this focus.

So how do you work out how many turns Sam can have? By repeated addition of 11p and then counting how many times this occurs. 11p, 11p (22p), 11p (33p), 11p (44p), 11p (55p), 11p (66p), 11p (77p), 11p (88p), 11p (99p). Total of turns = 9.

I will send everyone a 100 square home to help with future homeworks and try to forwarn you all through the class blog of any more challenges.
