Day 4: More Chicks Arrived

Date: 29th Apr 2021 @ 5:10pm

When we got to school today, three more chicks had hatched over night! Which means we have eight chicks altogether. We called the new chicks Billy, Flower and Bananas.

Our first three chicks have moved into the brooder box now and we have started a care schedule so that all of the children can help look after the chicks. This morning we had to clean the bedding, give the chicks fresh water and put out some food. The other chicks stayed in the incubator to dry out.

The children have been making some lovely pictures for the chicks and showing them through the window. The chicks have also been lucky enough to have some stories read to them by the children!

At lunchtime, our ninth chick hatched. The children were so excited when they came back from playing outside to meet the new chick. Then just in time for the end of the day, our last egg hatched too! We called the last two chicks Sweetie and Bella Ballerina.

Mrs Hamblin moved some more chicks into the brooder box at the end of the day so that they could get to know their brothers and sisters. They settled in the brooder box straight away and quickly found the bowl of food! The three chicks that hatched today have stayed in the incubator while they fluff out and will move into the brooder box tomorrow.

We are so pleased that all ten of our eggs hatched and can't wait to look after them over the next week!
