Day 9: Holding Chicks!

Date: 4th May 2021 @ 3:29pm

The children were very excited to see the chicks again this morning. Lots of children were surprised by how big they had grown over the weekend! The children made some good observations about the chicks new feathers on their wings.

We decided to weigh one of the chicks to find out how heavy it was. We used the balancing scales and put a chick in one side and then used unifix cubes to balance it on the other side. The children estimated how many cubes heavy the chick would be. The biggest estimate was 10 cubes. The chick actually weighed the same as 18 cubes! We are going to weigh it each day to see if it gets heavier as it continues to grow.

The most exciting part of today was getting to hold the chicks! The children thoroughly enjoyed holding the chicks and stroking them. Everyone was very gentle! Reception are doing such a good job of taking care of the chicks. Mrs Hamblin is very proud of them!
