Day 3: Hatch Day!

Reception class had a lovely surprise yesterday morning. When we arrived at school three of our chicks had hatched! The children were so excited to meet them. It was then even more exciting when one of the eggs started to hatch throughout the morning. We stopped everything and gathered to watch as the chick hatched out and took it's first steps in the incubator! 

In the afternoon, we prepared the brooding box for the chicks that had fluffed out and were ready to move. The children helped to put the bedding down, put a bowl of chick food out and filled the drinking bottle. We talked about how important it was to wash our hands afterwards. 

When we came in from outside play, our fifth chick started to hatch. It was a great end to the day. Throughout the day we discussed and voted on names for our chicks, so meet Bob, Fluffy, Pompom, Daisy and Peter! 

We are very hopeful that more chicks will hatch soon!
