Our Sunny Autumn Walk

Date: 5th Oct 2020 @ 2:01pm

We had a spectacularly sunny morning for our Autumn walk.We set off up Ringinglow Road then took a right up Trap Lane into the Porter Valley. We thought about how valleys are formed, and the shape of the valley that is created. Mel, who we know from our trips to Longshaw, explained how the flow of the River Porter created the valley, and we looked at the shape of the river... it was very wiggly! We learnt that this was the meandering of the river, and how the river flows faster on the deeper side than on the shallow side, creating wide 'C' shapes. We also learnt that the Porter's source was very near, and it flows into Endcliffe Park, and eventually the sea. We looked at the trees and thought about how old they are, and how they cleverly ensure their seeds are spread widely. Isn't nature amazing? After a snack, a drink, and a look at the alpacas, we headed back to school, exhausted!
