Science Week Experiments in Y5

Date: 15th Mar 2022 @ 2:37pm

We became scientists in Y5 this afternoon to celebrate Science Week. Our first experiment was making slime. First we put some PVA glue in a bowl, then we added bicarbonate of soda. The final ingredient was contact lens solution which contains boric acid. When stirred, the mixture very quickly became stretchy. Some of us needed more contact lens solution, others needed more glue, but most of us got to a point where the slime was very stretchy. We measured its stretchiness - some of us got to a length of 6 m!

Our second experiment was based on our knowledge that you can tell the age of a shark by its length. We wondered if it would be the same for us. We measured ourselves and each other, and plotted our heights against our age in years and months on a graph. A shark would have a straight line, but ours was definitely NOT straight! We concluded that we cannot tell the age of a human by their height.
