Science investigation by Y4 - Does a sound get fainter when the distance from the source increases?

We had a fascinating afternoon in Y4 using data loggers to test sound volume. We used a recorder to make a sound and checked the volume in decibels using  a machine called a data logger. Then we kept moving away from the sound and re-tested the volume. Do you think it got louder or quieter as we moved away?
