Sculptures in Y4

Date: 18th Nov 2020 @ 4:15pm

Over the past few days we have been learning about the industrial revolution, and the steel industry in Sheffield. We have talked about the statue in Meadowhall of the steel workers, as well as the statue of the Women of Steel near the City Hall in Sheffield. These statues have inspired us to create our own sculptures.

First we had a go at sketching the human body, and getting it in proportion. Then we used a piece of wire to create a person. Once we had our skeleton, we fleshed it out using plaster cast bandages cut into strips, which we wetted and wrapped around our framework. It was messy and very fiddly! Have a look at our sculptures  - we will be painting them next week once they have dried.
