The Gingerbread Man

Date: 18th Jan 2022 @ 3:58pm

Duck class have made a great start to the new year as we have learnt the story of 'The Gingerbread Man'. We explored what would happen to the Gingerbread Man if he had tried to swim across the river instead of being tricked by the fox. We set up an experiment putting a gingerbread man into different types of water: cold, warm, salty and bubbly. The children made some fantastic observations about what was happening using some great vocabulary! We concluded that it wouldn't be a good idea for the gingerbread man to swim across the river, so we decided to make a bridge for him to use. The children thought about what they would like to build their bridge out of and then drew a design which they used to build their bridge.

Later in the week, we read the story 'The Runaway Chapati'. We compared this story to 'The Gingerbread Man' and talked about which parts of the story were similar and which were different. One of the differences is that The Runaway Chapati is set in India. We learnt a little bit about life in India and Mrs Banks showed us some photos of a trip she took there. Mrs Banks made some chapati for us to taste! This one didn't runaway and we enjoyed trying something different.
