Volcanoes

Date: 25th Nov 2020 @ 4:29pm

In geography last term we  learnt about volcanoes.  The first thing we found out was the different layers of  the earth.  These are the inner core and outer core, the inner mantle and the outer mantle and the crust.  Each of these layers are different temperatures and some are solids, some are liquids and the upper mantle is both.

We discovered that the crust is made up of tectonic plates and when these plates move it can create an opening through which lava, gases, rocks and ash are able to escape.  This is the begininings of a volcano!

We found out that a volcano has lots of different parts such as the crater, main vent, magma chamber and lava. We also found out the difference between lava and magma and that there are three types of volcano, dormant, extinct and active.

By using tissue paper and some collage materials we created our own pictures of a volcano and then , using all the facts we had learnt, we designed an information poster.
