A glimpse into the world of biology at Sheffield University

We were very privileged today to take part in a zoom session with Brainwaves, which is a scientific society within Sheffield University. We watched a presentation, and listened to a mini lecture all about microbes and bacteria. We leant about both good bacteria which lives in our bodies, and bad bacteria, which can make us poorly.  We learnt about how to encourage the good bacteria, and avoid the bad! Overall, we need a balanced and varied diet. We expanded our biologocal vocabulary with words such as microbes and pathogens, and we now know that a pathogen is a bad microbe, also known as a germ. Finally we had a chance to chat to some of the students and ask questions. It's certainly inspired a few of us to think about being a scientist in the future!
