Happy Diwali!

We have had a fab week in duck class learning all about Diwali, the festival of light. The children have enjoyed finding out about how people celebrate Diwali, through fireworks, light shows, special food and clothes, and spending time with family. We read the story of Rama and Sita and then the children acted out the story themselves. At the end of the story, all the people lit a candle to welcome Rama and Sita home. In duck class, we made our own diya lamps out of clay, which we decorated with sequins and then put a candle in to light. We learnt about the rangoli patterns made to welcome people into your home and the children made their own patterns using chalk on the ground and coloured sand. Our classroom is now an explosion of colour and light!
