Making motorised vehicles in Y5

Last week we started work on making a motorised vehicle. First we created a frame out of wood which we glued into a rectangle, and added re-inforcements for strength. Next we added our axles and wheels, remembering to add a wooden pulley with an elastic band. Our measurements had to be accurate, and as we were using hacksaws, we had to be careful too! We created a circuit with a motor, a battery pack, and a switch, and we mounted the motor shaft on the frame. We then attached the elastic band to the pulley. After attaching the battery and tucking in the wires, we were ready to go! We were relieved and amazed when they actually whizzed along the corridor!
