Y4's visit to the cemetery

Date: 8th Jun 2021 @ 4:03pm

What a beautiful afternoon for a visit to look at our wonderful wildlife! Only a few steps down the hill, we visited the cemetary, as part of 'Caring for God's Acre', which involves looking for and recording as many different types of plants and wildlife as possible. Our vicar Mark showed us around, and we learnt about the different types of trees, some of which are over 350 years old! Mark showed us the 'labyrinth' in the church yard, which is a wild meadow with a curved trail mown into it. It is recommended for helping us concentrate while we pray. We wandered quietly around the path - some of us tried it with our eyes closed! We identified lots of different types of trees, and had a go at sketching them.  We are also interested in animal habitats, and searched for and identified some mini-beasts! They love it in the wild meadow! We also found many different wild flowers, and used hula-hoops to check on the numbers of flowers within a sample area. We'll use these tomorrow in our maths - we can't wait to start looking at our data! Many thanks to Mark and Rosie for sharing the fascinating cemetery with us so enthusiastically.
