Y6's trip to Flamborough Head

Date: 13th Jul 2022 @ 3:24pm

We had a fabulous day at Flamborough head yesterday. It was a long journey, but well worth it! First, we walked down the steep coastal path to Selwicks Bay, where we had an amazing time exploring the rockpools, the cliffs, the caves, and the pebbly beach. We found some beautiful crystalline stones, smooth pebbles which we were able to sketch on, and an amazing world within the rockpools, including snails, anemones, crabs and sea-weed. We discovered that the cliffs were made of chalk, and that the sea was full of seals, bobbing up and down! We enjoyed sketching our favourite parts of the bay, had our lunch, and then moved on to our next observation point. This was back up the path and on the top, at the Fog Signal station. From here we had a spectacular view of the bay, all the way to Bridlington. We could see the result of the coastal erosion in the stacks, and we could also see some caves that had been created through erosion, and which would, in time, also become stacks. We did some more sketching then headed back to the coach, after a long but fascinating day. Many thanks to the parents for their help - we couldn't have done it without you!
